About Us

Manager: Carol Romilly
Admissions: Jane Gill

Little Acorns pre-school is privately owned and was established in 1991. We provide a friendly nurturing environment with qualified and caring staff, welcoming all children aged from 2 years 9 months to 5 years. We operate from a hall in the Highfield Church Centre and have the use of a fully enclosed garden so that we can provide both indoor and outdoor play.
We provide pre-school children with a wide variety of learning experiences in a secure, caring environment, which fosters confidence, independence and self-esteem. Our adult to child ratio is at least 1 to 6, and our staff are all well qualified in providing a stimulating play environment where the children can progress towards the Early Learning Goals that all children should achieve by the end of reception year at school.
Sessions are Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs and Fri mornings, 9.15 – 12.15pm during school term-times only, that is 38 weeks per year.
Children may attend for between two and five sessions per week. We suggest that younger children start with 2 or 3 sessions per week but may increase this to 4 or 5 when parents and staff feel they are ready and able to benefit from more sessions, subject to availability of places.
Full details of our provision and curriculum are in our welcome pack for new parents
To apply for a place for your child, please fill in our application form.
Free government funding is available for all children from the term after the child's third birthday.
The preschool is registered with Ofsted and is a member of the Early Years Alliance.

We were pleased to be awarded Good in our last Ofsted report, see below for the Summary of Key Findings for Parents from the Report

  1. Staff establish strong connections with parents, and they communicate information about children's development. They frequently send home children's learning journals and encourage open dialogue about children's care. Staff help children refine new skills and make good progress in all areas of learning.
  2. Children establish secure attachments and gravitate towards their key person when they arrive at pre-school in the morning. They settle into play with friends soon afterwards.
  3. Staff coordinate well with other professionals and practitioners involved in children's care. They seek the consent of parents and make rapid contact with staff at other childcare settings that share the care of children. They do this to provide children with consistent learning and care routines.
  4. Children consistently display good conduct. They behave well towards their friends; they are polite, thoughtful and quick to share toys. Children establish secure attachments.
  5. Staff know that children are capable of achieving well, and they help them make good progress across the curriculum.
